DAY FIVE - The Big Three in San Antonio try to bounce back against Denver, Cleveland tries to go up 2-0 against the Wizards, and the Mavs try to adjust against Don Nelson and the Warriors
Nuggets at Spurs, 7:00 PM, TNT
Thoughts: Easily the most shocking of all the game one results was Denver's win. Not to say I didn't expect them to play well, but San Antonio's disappointing play was not something I could have foreseen. While it's possible for both Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony to go for thirty a piece again, it isn't likely. And it will be nearly impossible for Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili to go a combined 19/52. San Antonio gets their game straight and bounces back. Spurs win.
Wizards at Cavaliers, 8:00 PM, NBA TV
Thoughts: It's going to take a lot for the Wizards to even be able to win a game in this series. Antawn Jamison is doing an admirable job of trying to carry the load, but he's having to take more shots than he's been accustom to in years and it showed in game one. The Wizards shot poorly, got out rebounded, and unfortunately looked like a pale shadow of what they were healthy in this series last season. The Cavs are more talented than the injury depleted Wizards by far. Cavs hold home court and win tonight.
Warriors at Mavericks, 9:30 PM, TNT
Thoughts: Coming into this series I predicted it would be a tough one for the Mavs to win, but I still did pick them to win. Now I'm not so sure. Looking at game two, I have to look at what will be different and what will be the same. Will Nowitzki, Howard, and Stackhouse shoot better for the Mavs. Yes. But will Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, and Al Harrington likewise improve off of relatively sub-par performances in a game their team still won? Yes, also. It's not that I don't think Dallas will play better, it's that the Warriors won game one, and in all honesty, they didn't even play their best basketball. Avery Johnson hasn't made the adjustments to show us his team can handle the edge Nellie's team apparently has on them and until he does, I can't go picking the Mavs. Warriors win.
